Ballarat Gold Museum
Multi-Media Object Theatre

This object theatre in the Gold Museum in Ballarat, Victoria, tells the story of the original inhabitants of the region - the Watha Wurrung people.

The theatre is cylindrical and incorporates a curved scrim screen that occupies almost half of the circle's wall space. Behind the semi-translucent screen is a diorama representing the natural Australian bush environment together with a number of objects.

Strategically placed lighting behind the screen illuminates the objects as they fit into the story. Three video projectors, each with a programmable mirror complete the visual package.

The programmed mirrors allow the vision to move up, down and across the screen - and even project onto the theatre's floor - providing a totally unpredictable multi-media experience.
